Fort William First Nation – Traffic stop leads to impaired driving and drug charges

A male is facing a number of charges after being stopped for speeding in Fort William First Nation.
In the early morning hours of October 24, 2025, an Anishinabek Police Service officer conducting speed enforcement in Fort William First Nation clocked a vehicle travelling well above the speed limit in a 40 km/hr zone. The officer initiated a traffic stop at which time he observed the driver exhibiting visible signs of impairment. The driver was ordered to exit the vehicle and asked to perform a Standard Field Sobriety Test, which he failed. As a result, the driver was arrested and the vehicle was searched. Drug paraphernalia was located in the vicinity of the driver’s seat and a small quantity of suspected crack cocaine was located in the passenger’s side door.
The driver, a 50-year-old male from Fort William First Nation, was charged with:
- Operation While Impaired – alcohol and drugs
- Possession of a Schedule I Substance – cocaine
- Speeding (HTA Section 128)
He has since been released on an Undertaking.
