Kettle Point incident – Statement from Acting Chief Craddock

Please see a statement, below, from Acting Chief Julie Craddock, following an incident in Kettle Point earlier today involving an armed individual.
“Earlier this morning, while attempting an arrest in Kettle Point, one of our officers was seriously injured as a result of being slashed in the face by a suspect, who then barricaded themselves in a residence with a shotgun. Our officer was transported to hospital for medical care and has since been released. We will continue to support them and their family in every way possible and wish them a full recovery.
Miigwech to our Ontario Provincial Police partners who quickly deployed significant resources to assist our officer and to get the suspect into custody, and to EMS for their expert care and response.
Every day, our members work selflessly to protect the lives of the people in the communities we serve. This incident is a stark reminder of the dangers our officers potentially encounter every time they don their uniform, often facing unpredictable situations. Chief Skye and I are deeply grateful for their professionalism and dedication.”
